Group leader
Frank Holstege (b. 1966) has been appointed full professor in a newly created, prestigous Academic Biomedical Center (ABC) chair of Genomics within the Department of Physiological Chemistry at the University Medical Center Utrecht, the Netherlands.
2000 – 2005: assistant, later associate professor, Department of Physiological Chemistry, University Medical Center Utrecht.
1997-1999: post-doctoral fellow, Whitehead Institute for Biomedical Research, Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT), Cambridge, USA. Supervisor: Prof. dr. Rick Young. Holstege set up microarray technology and analyses for genome-wide studies of eukaryotic transcription regulation in this laboratory. This was initiated within the functional genomics consortium led by Prof. dr. Eric Lander (Whitehead/MIT Genome Center).
1991 – 1996: Ph.D. student. Thesis: "The mechanism of RNA polymerase II promoter opening". The components required for reconstitution of mammalian transcription were purified and analyzed for various biochemical functions. Supervisors: dr. Marc Timmers (now Prof.) and Prof. Peter van der Vliet, Utrecht University.
1985 – 1991: Undergraduate studies. Medical Biology, Utrecht University. A one year course in biomedical physics was followed as an extra-curricular subject. Undergraduate research (two years), included work with Prof. Cees Borst and Prof. Hans Clevers. Additional extra-curricular research (9 months) was performed at Unilever Research Laboratories Vlaardingen and the National Institutes of Health, Bethesda, USA.
